It’s not the full movie, but Oculus Studios will be releasing supplementary virtual reality media for the Rift and Gear headsets on Friday. It will be more than just 360 videos, with users able to explore 3D environments from the movie.

I know what I’ll be doing this weekend.

Ghost in the Shell

My God, it’s full of monoliths!

My God, it's full of monoliths!

They could be monoliths, or they could be books, or laptops. I don’t know. But they’re the stars of the tie. The way the fabric folds gives it the optical illusion of the slabs being 3D and floating in front of the knot, with a parallax toward the back.

I’ve had this Arrow tie from before 2001. The label says it’s 100% silk printed in Italy, but made in the USA. The colors are yellow and dark blue, so don’t get into any white/gold/blue/black arguments.

A New Form of Stem-Cell Engineering Raises Ethical Questions – The New York Times

Biologists at Harvard Medical School have announced the ability to create synthetic embryos from stem cells instead of fertilization, in effect making synthetic people. These “sheefs”, for “synthetic human entities with embryolike features”, present ethical considerations, while possibly avoiding legal restrictions on human experimentation. Framed as “human structures”, sheefs may be grown to maturity and provide tissue for experimentation and organs for transplant. Or they may be altered to have non-human traits. I mean, “structures”.
